How can I avoid a possession of cocaine conviction?

I was arrested for simple possession of cocaine over the weekend. How can I avoid a conviction? What is the actual sentence that can result because the cops said I could be facing jail? Thank you.

You may be able to avoid a conviction if your lawyer is able to suppress the evidence of the drugs. Sometimes there is an illegal search and seizure and we can then suppress the evidence and get the case dismissed. Other times, we are able to get our clients into a deferred entry of judgment program where they successfully complete a drug program and then the case gets dismissed. Call me for a free consultation to discuss your case.

It is too early to tell what the ultimate consequence is going to be. Unless you have prior convictions for drugs, I would guess that you are not looking at a jail sentence at all, but I really do not know enough about the facts of your case to be confident about that answer. There are ways to avoid a conviction, but again, I need to know more about the case to know if that will happen. If your case is in Los Angeles, I would be happy to meet with you (free consultation) and discuss it all. The WORST people to take legal advice from are police officers. They are trained liars, and they should not be telling you how your case is going to turn out. Good luck.
