What should I do for illegally using a handicap placard to park in a handicap spot?

I am due in court for a violation of parking in a handicap spot. I had my grandmothers handicap placard in my car because I was going to pick her up the following day. But I used the placard and parked in a handicap spot to quickly pick something up when I was given the citation. I did not know that the owner of the placard had to be present in order for it to be used. How should I plead? Do I need a lawyer?

As this is a misdemeanor, it is a good idea to have a lawyer. Perhaps something can be worked out with the prosecutor whereby you do not end up with a criminal conviction. Call me for a free consultation.
